Many people cope in different ways, especially now with all of the uncertainty of everyday life. I choose to share the behind the scenes of many people's realities, including my own. Coping is a self-portrait where I am exposing my coping mechanisms that I have developed during the pandemic. Consuming alcohol frequently, overeating, and making impulsive decisions like dying my hair, are just a few of the ways that I have been coping through Covid-19. I created this piece as a way for me to reflect on how I'm coping but to also share with others that they are not alone while experiencing this pandemic.
I chose to emphasize my hands because they play an important role in expressing my lack of self-control with these impulsive decisions. I am also passed out in this piece to show how most nights come to an end. Although they are not the most healthy ways of coping, they are coping mechanisms that I have formed during the pandemic.
